HARRINGTON CASINO FUNDRAISERS SUPPORT RMDH AND MAKE-A-WISH
HARRINGTON, Del. – The spirit of giving arrived early in Harrington this year as two successful fundraisers for a pair of prominent local non-profit organizations were held at Harrington Raceway and Casino.
Approximately 2,500 patrons participated in the events to benefit Ronald McDonald House of Delaware and Make-A-Wish Delaware in the casino’s gold room. Both events have been customary in recent years on the fall schedule at the casino and have garnered significant support.
On October 24, approximately 1,300 people participated in a donation drive to raise in excess of $13,000 to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware.
Since their inception in 1991, Ronald McDonald House of Delaware has provided a temporary residence for more than 49,000 families of seriously ill or injured children receiving treatment at area hospitals.
On November 29, another outpouring of community support was demonstrated with a fundraiser for Make-A-Wish Delaware as approximately 1,100 donations were received and totaled more than $11,000. Make-A-Wish aims to grant wishes for children diagnosed with a critical illness.
“Not only am I honored to be a part of these two wonderful Delaware organizations, but fortunate to work for a company that believes so much in giving back to the local community,” said Hank Rosenberg, COO of Hospitality of Harrington Raceway and Casino, who also serves on the Board of Directors for Make-A-Wish’s Southern Delaware Advisory Committee and Ronald McDonald House of Delaware. “The fundraisers at the casino will greatly support the efforts of these two organizations and their mission to help children with illnesses and their families. We are extremely thankful to all of our patrons who helped make this happen.”

14,000 ITEMS DONATED AT 6TH ANNUAL FOOD BANK FOOD DRIVE AT HARRINGTON RACEWAY & CASINO
12/26/2019
Approximately 14,000 canned goods were donated to the Food Bank of Delaware as a result of the 6th annual December 26 donation drive at Harrington Raceway and Casino.
Large palette boxes filled with items donated from an estimated 2,800 patrons were taken to the Food Bank on Friday December 27. The Boxing Day food drive is one of the most successful for the Food Bank, with an overwhelming response from the public pouring in with primarily canned goods in recent years.
Several volunteers pitched in to assist Harrington Raceway and Casino staff with processing and sorting donations.
"We thank Harrington Raceway and Casino for hosting this wonderful promotion again this year,” said Food Bank of Delaware’s Community Relations Director Chad Robinson. “It underscores their strong commitment to helping those in need. The Food Bank of Delaware appreciates their support."
HARRINGTON RACEWAY AND CASINO, BENEFITING MAKE-A-WISH FOUNDATION
12/13/2019
Representatives from the Make-A-Wish Foundation were presented a check on December 13 for $13,000 raised from a donation drive at Harrington Raceway and Casino.
The funds were from a November 24 fundraising event in the casino’s gold room.
Hank Rosenberg, COO of Hospitality of Harrington Raceway and Casino, has previously sat on the Board of Directors for Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic and is one of the longest standing Delaware volunteers (23 years).
“Make A Wish helps me put my life in perspective,” said Rosenberg. “Any problem that I may encounter is minimal compared to a child and their family facing a life-threatening illness. People ask me if it is hard working with these families and my response is just the opposite. I love it! Make A Wish brings hope and joy to the whole family and I am able to play a very small part in making this happen. Many wishes are trips (especially to Disney) and upon their return every single one has said that for the time away, the child has forgotten about their illness and that for this short period of time they felt like a “normal” family. Unfortunately, wishes currently are exceeding MAW’s budget and some wishes have to be delayed. The average wish costs $11,000. Our Company is so proud that we are able to help facilitate one or two local children being able to have their wish fulfilled. We are very thankful to all of our patrons that helped us make this happen.”
“Make-A-Wish truly appreciates being a nonprofit beneficiary for this generous promotion and we are thankful for our amazing volunteers like Hank Rosenberg,” said Michelle Wall, Make-A-Wish Regional Development Manager. “Together, we can raise the necessary funds to grant more wishes because wishes are waiting.”
Harrington Raceway and Casino had similar success with a fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House of Delaware in October and will be holding their annual food drive in the gold room on December 26 to benefit the Food Bank of Delaware. Previous years have seen enormous amounts of food pouring in for the event, totaling thousands of pounds.

HARRINGTON RACEWAY & CASINO 4TH ANNUAL FOOD DRIVE NETS OVER 12,000 ITEMS
01/02/2018
Harrington Raceway and Casino partnered with the Food Bank of Delaware’s Milford branch for an enormously successful food drive dubbed “Give and Receive Donation Day” on December 26. The spirit of giving was once again omnipresent as the 4th annual event received tremendous community support, as lines began to form nearly two hours before the 11 a.m. scheduled start time outside the casino’s gold room.
Customers were asked to bring in five non-perishable canned goods and the response was overwhelming as more than 12,000 donated items filled 15 bulk-sized palette boxes.
"We can't thank Harrington Raceway and Casino enough for hosting this wonderful promotion,” said Food Bank of Delaware’s Workforce Development Director Chad Robinson. “It underscores their strong commitment to helping those in need. The Food Bank of Delaware appreciates their support, not only in this, but in their regular volunteer visits and deep involvement in our Culinary School."
Harrington Raceway and Casino has maintained a strong partnership with the Food Bank of Delaware, through volunteer efforts as well as involvement with the Food Bank’s Milford-based culinary program. The class consists of a 14-week program of developing skills and a passion for the culinary arts. The final two weeks of the program are internship-based and provide hands-on experience for the students.
“Harrington Raceway and Casino is committed to strengthening and improving our community and The Food Bank is one of the organizations with whom we have a strong collaboration,” said Hank Rosenberg, COO of Hospitality at Harrington Raceway and Casino. “Not only are we excited about the amount of food that we were able to collect, we are proud of our volunteerism at their facility and our relationship with their culinary program. I don’t believe the average person realizes the hunger that exists in our community and the number of children and adults that depend on the Food Bank for their basic meals. It is sad when you are told of how many people don’t know where their next meal is coming from. And these individuals can be your neighbors. What many of us take for granted is such a struggle that exists for many in lower Delaware. No child should go hungry and so many would if it weren’t for The Food Bank.”
While the food drive was the most recent of the company’s charitable endeavors, the Harrington-based casino also had similar drives to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware in 2017 and victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Country superstar Ronnie Milsap scheduled to appear live on March 18th, 2017.
10/20/16
The Entertainment Department at Harrington Raceway and Casino is proud to announce that legendary country superstar Ronnie Milsap is scheduled to perform at the Exhibit Hall on Saturday, March 18th, 2017, as part of the On Stage – Harrington series line-up.
Known as one of the most popular and influential performers of the 1970’s and 1980’s, Milsap has garnered six Grammy awards, eight gold records, and an astonishing 40 No. 1 hits in his illustrious career. Milsap’s 40 #1 Country hits places him in the top three in that category among country superstars of all-time, only behind Conway Twitty and George Strait. His countless awards and accolades include induction into the famed Grand Ole Opry in 1976; eight Country Music Association Awards including Entertainer of the Year; four Academy of Country Music awards, including its top honor, the Pioneer Award in 2002; and induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2014.
Born in 1943 in the small town of Robbinsville, North Carolina, Milsap would grow up being influenced by several genres of music including pop, rock, R&B, gospel and country. The shear love of music would land Milsap learning several instruments and eventually mastering the piano. Throughout those formative years, Milsap would be influenced and inspired by the likes of Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis who he often pays tribute to them in his concerts. It was December of 1972 when he relocated to Nashville after a chance meeting with country music star Charlie Pride. This would prove to be a catalyst for Milsap as he was influenced by Pride to focus on country music and picked up by Pride’s manager who took him under his wing. In 1973, he would record his first hit, “I Hate You”, which would reach No. 10 on the country charts. The following year, Milsap toured as an opening act for Pride and garnered two No. 1 singles: “Pure Love” and “Please Don’t Tell Me How The Story Ends” which won him his first Grammy, and the rest is history.
Hit after hit followed including ”Smokey Mountain Rain,” “(There’s) No Getting Over Me,” “I Wouldn’t Have Missed It For The World,” “Any Day Now,” “Pure Love,” “Lost In The Fifties Tonight,” “Stranger In My House,” “(I’m a) Stand by My Woman Man,” and the incomparable classic “It Was Almost Like A Song,” making Milsap one of the biggest country music stars in history. Blake Shelton, who found inspiration and guidance from Milsap while recording his Red River Blue album, Eric Church, Billy Currington and Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley, to name a few, all have been credited in taking the approach Milsap brought to country music. Known as the pre-eminent country soul singer of his generation, Milsap continues to captivate sold-out crowds all over the world. Mosley is the granddaughter of popular local standardbred horseman Joe Hundertpfund Jr. Horsemen have rallied behind Mosley with fundraising efforts to help fund her healthcare costs.
“The support we’ve received has been outrageous,” said Hunderptfund. “Not just in Delaware, but in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. It just shows that the horse racing family comes together when there’s a cause. It makes me proud.”
On Wednesday, Mosley is expected to be in attendance giving out ribbons that celebrate Childhood Cancer Awareness. Mosley is nearing the end of her chemotherapy treatments and the family is hopeful she will remain cancer-free.

"The Ronald McDonald House of Delaware is incredibly grateful to the Harrington Raceway & Casino for holding this Wish List Drive, “ said Marek. “We are overwhelmed and humbled by the response of the many kind and caring individuals in the community. The donated household items will help families who call the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware their "home away from home" when they have a seriously or chronically ill or injured child in the hospital." Wal-Mart also played a pivotal role in the event by providing significant resources to transport the donated items.
Harrington Raceway and Casino has hosted similar events for a variety of charitable causes in the past, with the most recent beneficiaries being the Food Bank of Delaware, First State Animal Center and SPCA, and Toys for Tots.
The Ronald McDonald House of Delaware provides a safe and affordable "home away from home" to families of seriously or chronically ill or injured children who are being treated at area hospitals and operates three Ronald McDonald family rooms within pediatric units of hospitals across Delaware.
